ULTRASLIDEŽ DC Announced
New unit aimed at youth hockey market
EVANSTON, IL — Varisport, Inc., producer of the world-renowned ULTRASLIDEŽ slide board, is pleased to announce its newest model, the ULTRASLIDEŽ DC. David Cruikshank, a 4x United States Winter Olympic Team member (Speed Skating) and current president of David Cruikshank Powerskating and Conditioning, LLC., designed the new board. Cruikshank was looking for a slide board to incorporate into the training regimen of his athletes. To that end, he teamed up with his longtime friend and owner of Varisport, Barry Slotnick, to create a slide board with the youth hockey player in mind. The DC features the solid laminate base and adjustable hardwood bumpers that ULTRASLIDEŽ has become known for, but with a shorter overall length (7.5 feet) and thinner sliding surface, allowing easier portability of the board to set up at the rink before practice or games. Also, the ULTRASLIDEŽ DC features unique 90 degree bumpers, fundamental to the powerskating technique that Cruikshank teaches his athletes.
Says Cruikshank: "Testing of skaters and practical experience has shown that pushing to the side is quickest way to accelerate on the ice. There is no better tool for this than the ULTRASLIDEŽ. I designed the DC with this in mind, also wanting a board that athletes and parents could afford and, if need be, transport to the rink."
Adds Slotnick: "The DC, like our larger ULTRASLIDEŽ models, is entirely handmade and is the perfect solution not only for youth players, but adults looking for a tremendous home workout."
The ULTRASLIDEŽ DC will be shown to the public for the first time at the Let's Play Hockey Expo in St. Paul, Minnesota on March 4-5, 2005. Cruikshank will be at the Varisport booth (#403) to demonstrate the board and answer questions.
