Learning to skate at the age of eight in Northbrook Illinois, David was driven to follow in the footsteps of Northbrook's strong tradition of Speed Skating Olympians. In his first major long track international competition, he won the Junior World 500m at the age of seventeen. Then, the very next year he made the 1988 Olympic Team and won the 1000m at the Olympic trials beating the likes of Dan Jansen (1000m Olympic favorite and gold medalist in 1994) and Eric Flaim (1988 Olympic Silver Medalist 1500m). The following year, Cruikshank medaled in a World Cup competition and placed 13th overall in his first World Sprint Championships. David continued on to a very long and successful career making multiple World Championship Teams and three more Olympic Teams before starting his own business.
Graduate of Carroll College with a degree in Business Management.

"Skating is much more than just what people
see on the ice. Learning to be a great skater
requires having the right equipment, doing
the correct off-ice exercises, and knowing
how to execute proper skating form."
» David Cruikshank
